The transfer saga surrounding Harry Kane has taken an intriguing turn, with Bayern Munich upping the ante by submitting an improved bid they consider to be their final offer. The German champions have been keen on acquiring the England striker, and Kane himself has expressed his willingness to make the move. However, the deal hinges on Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s response to Bayern’s latest proposal.
Bayern’s pursuit of Kane began with an initial offer of €70 million (£60 million) plus add-ons, which was swiftly dismissed by Levy. The club then upped the bid to €80 million plus add-ons, but this too failed to meet Tottenham’s expectations. The Bavarians’ delegates have been in London this week for talks and have now presented a new offer in a bid to secure the prolific striker’s services.
Uli Hoeness, Bayern Munich’s honorary president, had expressed confidence last month that the club would succeed in signing Kane if the player remained committed to the move. However, much depends on Levy’s stance and whether he is willing to sanction the transfer.
Kane has one year left on his contract with Tottenham and has been offered a substantial new deal, significantly improving his current £200,000-a-week wages. Despite this, the allure of Bayern Munich remains strong for the 28-year-old, who is attracted to the club’s illustrious history of consistently winning trophies, including 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles, and their competitive performances in the Champions League.
The Bavarians’ previous record transfer fee was the €80 million they paid for Lucas Hernández in 2019, indicating the significance they place on securing Kane’s signature.
Meanwhile, Tottenham is also making moves in the transfer market. The club has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign Micky van de Ven, a defender from Wolfsburg, for a fee that could reach up to €50 million with add-ons. The Dutch centre-back is set to undergo a medical before finalizing the move, which is expected to keep him at Tottenham until 2028.
In addition to Van de Ven, the North London club has also struck a deal to acquire the services of Alejo Véliz, a 19-year-old Argentine forward from Rosario Central. The transfer fee is reported to be around €15 million, with potential add-ons.
As the transfer window heats up, fans await with bated breath to see how the Harry Kane saga unfolds. Will Bayern Munich’s latest bid be enough to convince Tottenham’s chairman to part ways with their talismanic striker? Or will Kane remain loyal to the Spurs faithful and continue his journey with the club he has served so admirably? Only time will tell.
